Kastellos is a traditional village located 30 minutes from Rethymno and 45 minutes from Chania. The beach is only 6kms away and is a long stretch of sandy beach extending from the area of Petre to Georgioupoli. Organised areas with beach bars and tavernas provide sunbeds and umbrellas but the beach is so vast that should you want a spot all to yourself, you are likely to find it. Amenities such as supermarket, cafes, chemist and tavernas can be found in the nearby areas of Kavros (5kms) and Georgioupoli (8 km) which are also resorts so you can find all the facilities you need. Your closest taverna is a mere 800m walk away serving  traditional Cretan food.  

Being situated between Rethymno and Chania, you have the chance to explore both beautiful towns with their Venetian and Turkish influences, pretty harbours and wide selection of tavernas and high end restaurants. You will also find large supermarkets and all the amenities you require in Rethymno town (21kms). 

Lake Kournas, known as the Emerald lake, is on your doorstep and is not to be missed. Enjoy a meal in one of the lakeside tavernas, swim or hire a pedalo or paddle boat. Argiropouli is also only a short drive away, famous for its lush greenery and  waterfalls. Many of the tavernas there have water wheels and are shaded by beautiful trees.  There are plenty of beautiful villages around the area of Kastellos and you can drive high on the mountain to explore.
